Bringing Christmas to the Elderly

Dashing through the halls,
Of the assisted-living center
Singing Christmas carols
Take in all the splendor
Reindeer bells are ringing,
Frosty’s dancing too
Santa’s elves are singing,
Hope there’s no code blue!

Oh Jingle Bells, denture gel
Carols for the residents
Oh what joy it is to sing
And bring some Christmas presents

Now I've Christmas caroled at retirement homes before but this year we decided to step it up a notch. This Christmas season I directed a fun-filled, upbeat, over the top Christmas pageant to share some Christmas cheer with the elderly residents of the local assisted living center - and it was a smash success!

Not only did we bust through those doors spewing Christmas cheer, but we came in fully loaded singing along with jiggling bells, prancing enchanting reindeer, frolicking elves, a sassy hip-hopping Christmas tree, a very hot Frosty the snowman, and a bigger than life present getting jiggy with a dancing stocking - to top it off, we welcomed that jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus!

It was electric seeing the faces of those sweet seniors as we livened up their digs. They laughed, clapped, and sang along and didn't want it to end! We paraded some rousing renditions of Rock'n around the Christmas tree, All I want for Christmas is my too front-teeth, and even I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus. We more than decked their halls with a ball of festive Christmas cheer! After our roaring reception for the show we got to greet them each individually and hear their wonderful stories. Kisses were demanded and given, hugs exchanged and hearts were warmed... One woman in particular was by far our favorite audience member, she waved her arms in air, singing along, and laughing all the way.... hahaha.. afterwards she expressed how thankful she was that we came and asked if we would be coming again next week! There is no greater way to get into the Christmas spirit than to lifr the spirits of those around us. Christmas Pageant - success!
